A view on Chelsea
this time it was in stamford bridge. home of Chelsea ..... the team rising from its ashes like a phoenix. the crowd was ecstatic and a roar of chelsea echoed through the stadium and all the way to barcelona. well , i gotta say chelsea's squad needed it too. barcelona being away were still the favourites for the world as a general opinian says "Barcelona all the way".
as the whistle for the kickoff went off, the guests whizzed pass the home team with the ball with enough confidence to knock off a goal in the first minute itself. their confidence was crystal clear and could be seen easily through a marvelous display of sheer class. the game went on and the away team kept more than 70% of the possession with them.
then there came a time when after a definite looking goal attempt from sanchez ended with the end of the projectory of the ball against the crossbar, when people thought that it was really barcelona all the way this time too. But chelsea was not ready to give the game awayso easily. they srarted creating their chances through threatening counters time and again. though the possession in the game said a totally different story altogether, something kept reminding everyone that chelsea is still in the game.
the game went on with no goal on the board till the 45th minute when suddenly in the 2nd minute of the extra time a beautiful yet easy lobbed through to ramires from lampard following a hasty yet accurate pass to drogba was converted into a raw yet powerful goal from the latter. the stadium came to life and so did the chelsea fans and not to miss out the people who are bored with el-classico matches.
the second half started and barcelona kept pressing throughout trying desperately to penetrate the 11 men wall of defence that chelsea had created in front of their D-area. it was the 87th minute or so when a real penetrator came off from the shoes of messi hitting eventually and to his utter dissapointment on the post to finally finish their strive to hit a goal.
though the possession at the end of the game was 75-25 for barca and chelsea respectively, it was the end result that mattered most for the west londoners.
for a team like chelsea it was a really brave attempt to go ahead and take a head on with barca but i must say it was not in vain.
